Reading, Pa (October 28, 2023) - Alvernia University (2-13-3, 1-4-2) played to a 2-2 draw with Widener University (5-6-6, 3-2-2) in a MAC Commonwealth women's soccer matchup Saturday afternoon at Alvernia. 

The Golden Wolves got on the board first in the 28th minute of the game when Haley Dougherty drove down the right wing and fired a low cross into the box that found the foot of a running Madison Rotkiske who tapped the ball past the Widener goalie and into the back of the net to give Alvernia a 1-0 lead. 

The Pride evened the score up just over five minutes later when Maura Graves sent a ball into the box off a Widener corner kick that found its way to the foot of Emily Friel who directed it past a diving Brynn Bock and into the goal to tie the game at one. 

Alvernia had one chance to score in the final ten minutes of the game when Olivia Swartz fired a shot just wide of the goal as the game headed into the half locked at one. 

The Golden Wolves threatened right out of the half when Gianna Ordanoff hit the crossbar and Kayln Keen collected the rebound and fired a shot but it went wide to keep the game knotted at one. 

The Golden Wolves then grabbed the lead in the 75th minute when Rotkiske took the ball down the wing and played a driven cross into the box that found the feet of Swartz, Swartz then turned the defender and fired a shot with her left foot and into the bottom left corner of the goal to give Alvernia a 2-1 lead with 15 to play. 

The Pride responded immediately with a goal from Alyssa Carman just 15 seconds after the Alvernia goal to tie the game at two with 15 minutes left in the game. 

The Golden Wolves sent three shots at the Widener goal in the final 15 minutes of play but Widener keeper Samantha Coon saved two of the Alvernia shots as the game ended in a 2-2 draw. 

Bock recorded four saves in goal for Alvernia and Katelyn Dreibelbis tallied the final twenty minutes of the game in goal. 

Rotkiske led the Golden Wolves with a goal and an assist, Swartz scored the second goal and recorded six shots with five going on target. Keen recorded three shots and Ordanoff and Macy McDonough both tallied two shots. 

The draw marks the end of the season for the Golden Wolves.
