Boulder City, NV (Oct. 29, 2023) - Alvernia University men's golf competed in the first day of competition at the three-day Division III NCAA Preview at Boulder Creek in Boulder Creek Golf Club on Sunday.

Alvernia finished round one with a team score of 329. Sewanee leads the preview through the first 18 holes with a score of 297. The Tigers will take a four stroke lead into day two tomorrow. 

Shawn Williams led Alvernia with a 5-over 77. Williams is in a tie for 22nd overall through the first day of competition. After going 5-over on the front nine, Williams settled on the back nine. He got two strokes back with birdies on the 11th and 13th holes, along with pars on 10, 12, and 14. He gave two back with a double on the 15th, but picked up his third birdie of the day on the 610 yard par five 16th. He finished out his day with a par on 17 and bogey on 18.

Finishing in second for Alvernia was Jack Lynam with a round of 7-over 77. Lynam settled in well for his final five holes of the round. A par on the 14th sparked a 2-under run to close out his round as Lynam posted pars on 14, 15, and 17 and birdies on the 16th and 18th holes.

Andrew Bauer shot a 14-over 86 with six pars and a birdie. His birdie came on the second hole of the day, the 580 yard par five 2nd. Bauer sits in t-84th overall and finished third for Alvernia on day one of the invitational. 

Both Jackson Hoovler and Matthew Gagliardi shot rounds of 15-over 87 to finish t-4th for Alvernia. Hoovler finished with five pars and two birdies, and Gagliardi had seven pars and a birdie. 

Alvernia is back in action for day two of the 54 hole event.
