Boulder City, NV (Oct. 30, 2023) - Alvernia University dropped 25 strokes from its team score on Monday as the Golden Wolves competed in the second day of the NCAA Division III NCAA Preview in Boulder Creek, Nevada at Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Alvernia shot a team score of 304 on the second day of the three-day event, bettering its Sunday score of 329.

Both Jack Lynam and Matthew Gagliardi shot 1-over 73s to lead Alvernia on Monday. Lynam is in T-36th with a two-day total of 152, and Gagliardi is in T-76th with a two-day total of 160.

Lynam dropped six strokes from his first round score of 79. Lynam started on the back nine and moved to 2-under through his first four holes with birdies on the 12th and 13th holes. He remained at 2-under through his first seven holes, but gave four strokes back on his final two holes of the back nine to make the turn to the front at 2-over. He then moved back to even with an eagle on the 570-yard par five 2nd hole. After two more pars on the 3rd and 4th holes, Lynam moved to 1-under with a birdie on the par five 5th hole. He pared the 6th and 7th holes, but moved back to 1-over on the day with bogeys on the 8th and 9th holes. Lynam is now in T-36th in the field of 90 and moved up seven spots from Sunday.

Gagliardi took off 14 strokes from his round of 87 on Sunday with a 73 on Monday. Gagliardi posted a nearly perfect scorecard on Monday, with just two bogeys on his round.  He was 1-over through his first nine holes with a bogey on the 11th hole and eight pars to make the turn at 1-over. He moved back to even on the day with a par on the 1st hole and a birdie on the 2nd. He gave one back on the 4th hole with a bogey before closing out his day with five straight pars for the round of 73.  Gagliardi jumped up 10 spots on the leaderboard and sits at T-76th.

Shawn Williams posted a round of 78 and sits in second overall for Alvernia with a two-day total of 155. Williams, who is in T-53rd, started his round with a bogey before settling in for three straight pars. He gave two back on the 14th and 15th holes before grabbing a birdie on the 610 yard par five 16th hole. He made the turn at 4-over and moved to 3-over with a birdie on the 2nd. He then carded two more pars before getting to 2-over with another birdie on the 5th. Gagliardi then found trouble on his final four holes to finish the day at 6-over 78.

Andrew Bauer is in fourth overall for Alvernia following a round of 80 on Monday for a two-day total of 166. Bauer is in T-85th overall and had 11 pars on the day.

Jackson Hoovler sits in fifth for Alvernia and in 87th overall following a round of 81 on Monday for a two-day total of 168. Hoovler's round was highlighted by an eagle on the 550 yard par five 13th hole. He also had eight pars on his round.

Methodist University leads the tournament with a two-day total of 584. Sewanee's Grayson Maddox leads the tournament with a two-day total of 135 following a 7-under 65 on Monday. 

Alvernia is back at Boulder Creek for the final day of the NCAA Preview on Tuesday.
