Spartans Take Down Golden Wolves, 5-0

York, Pa (October 7, 2023) - York College (9-2, 1-0) netted five goals to take down Alvernia University (4-7, 1-0) 5-0, in a MAC Commonwealth field hockey matchup Saturday afternoon at York. 

A scoreless first quarter was highlighted by York firing four shots at the Alvernia goal with three going on target, but Alvernia goalie Lexi Boettcher saved all three to keep the game scoreless after 15 minutes of play. 

The Spartans got on the board first when Maycee Collison connected with Katie Martino in the 19th minute to put York up 1-0 early in the second quarter. 

York made it 2-0 in the 24th minute when Sara Pique assisted Maggie Spadafora to give the Spartans a two goal advantage. 

York tallied a third goal of the quarter just over two minutes later when Pique tallied an unassisted goal to make it 3-0 Spartans heading into the half. 

York continued to find the back of the net in the third quarter after Olivia Miller netted an unassisted goal five minutes into the second half to extend the Spartan lead to 4-0. 

The Spartans made it five within the first minute of the fourth quarter after Miller assisted Spadafora to secure the 5-0 victory. 

Boettcher tallied four saves in net for the Golden Wolves and Hannah Wolfe tallied two saves in 30 minutes of action. 

Alvernia was led by Caroline Martin with three shots and two on target and Kathryn Palmer tallied the other two shots for the Golden Wolves with one being on target. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Wednesday when they host Eastern in a MAC Commonwealth field hockey matchup at 7:00 PM.
