Alvernia Drops 3-1 Contest to Eastern

Wayne, Pa (October 7, 2023) - Eastern University (2-4-4, 1-0-1) used two first half goals to take down Alvernia University (1-9-2, 0-1-1) 3-1, in a MAC Commonwealth women's soccer matchup Saturday afternoon at Eastern.

The Eagles struck first in the 11th minute after Paige Snell assisted Olivia Nicholson to give Eastern a 1-0 advantage early in the contest.

Eastern fired six shots at the Alvernia goal in the next ten minutes of the half with four going on target, but Alvernia keeper Brynn Bock saved all four shots on goal to keep the score at 1-0.

The Eagles made it 2-0 in the final five minutes of the half after Ella Sedor connected with Madelyn Mullen who found the back of the net to extend the lead to two with under five to play in the first half.

Alvernia's Haley Dougherty fired a shot in the final seconds of the first half but it was saved by Eastern's Faith Leake to keep the score at 2-0 at the half.

The Golden Wolves fired two shots in the first ten minutes of the second half with Gianna Ordanoff and Abigail Sargent both firing shots but both were off target.

Eastern tallied its third goal in the 58th minute of the game when Nicholson tallied her second assist of the afternoon, this time she connected with Mullen with netted her second goal of the day and made it 3-0 Eagles.

The Golden Wolves responded by sending five shots on goal in the next 15 minutes with Macy McDonough, Kalyn Keen, Dougherty and Ordanoff all sending shots on target for Alvernia but Eastern's Leake saved them all to keep the score at 3-0.

The Golden Wolves then found a goal after a foul in the box granted Alvernia a penalty kick opportunity. Dougherty stepped up to the spot for the Golden Wolves and buried her attempt into the back of the net to make it a 3-1 ballgame.

The Eagles then saw the rest of the 15 minutes out to secure the 3-1 victory.

Bock tallied six saves in net for the Golden Wolves.

Dougherty led Alvernia with the lone goal and finished with four shots, which all went on goal. Ordanoff tallied two shots with one on target and both McDonough and Keen tallied shots on goal for the Golden Wolves.

Alvernia is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to King's to take on the Monarchs at 7:00 PM.
