BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Nov. 11, 2023) - Stevenson University (RV, 3-2-1, 1-2-1) scored four of the final five goals of the game to take a 5-3 win over Alvernia University (4-1-1, 3-1-0) in UCHC/MAC men's ice hockey action at Alvernia.

The Mustangs struck first just seven minutes into the game as the Mustangs scored on a power play goal.

Alvernia answered with a goal from Isaac Chapman off the assist of Logan vande Meerakker and Andrew Deschnes. The puck went in the back of the net off deflecting off the back of the goalie to tie the game up at 1-1.

The game remained locked at 1-1 through the start of the second period when Chapman netted his second off the night, this time off the assist of vande Meerakker and Matthew Davies, to take a 2-1 lead over Arcadia. 

The game remained at 2-1 through the start of the third period, but Alvernia had to kill off a penalty in the opening minutes of the period and Stevenson took advantage. The Mustangs tied it up at 2-2 on a power play goal. Less than a minute later, they took the lead on a goal off a faceoff win.

The Mustangs kept it coming, adding two more goals over the first ten minutes of the period to take a 5-2 lead over Alvernia with ten minutes to play. Alvernia got one back on a goal by Hunter Alden with 7:30 to play. But, it would be too little too late as Stevenson came way with the 5-1 win.

Chapman led Alvernia with two goals, and vande Meerakker finished with three assists. Additional final stats were unavailable at the time of posting due to a software issue.

Alvernia is back in action on Friday at Nazareth.
