Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | By Marisa Lombardo (Director of Sports Information)

Alvernia Blanks Neumann, 4-0

Aston, Pa. (Nov. 17, 2023) - Alvernia University (6-1, 4-1) blanked Neumann University (4-4, 0-3) as the Golden Wolves recorded their fifth shutout of the young season on Friday evening in MAC/UCHC women's ice hockey action at Neumann.

Alvernia had early control of the puck and sent five shots in at Neumann goalie within the first four minutes. Three shots were saved and another was blocked as the game remained at 0-0 early.

The game then saw what would be the first of many power play opportunities on the night, and the first went in favor of Neumann as Alvernia was called for slashing. But, Alvernia held the Knights to just one shot on goal during the power play and killed it off.

Nearly as soon as Alvernia got back to even strength, the Golden Wolves scored their first of the evening as Lexi Hooper found the back of the net after 6:27 of first period action. The Knights had two more power play attempts the rest of the period, but Alvernia killed off both as the game went into the second frame with Alvernia leading 1-0.

Alvernia had an early power play opportunity to open the second period, but the Knights fended it off to keep it a 1-0 goal game. But, with about 12 minutes to play in the period, Alvernia broke through for its second goal as Khenzie Connick and Sydney Bradley found Julia Franklin for the goal.

Franklin needed just four more minutes to net her second of the night, again off the feed of Connick and Bradley, as Alvernia took the 3-0 lead with just over eight minutes to play in the period.

Both teams traded power play opportunities in the final minutes of the second period, but the game remained at 3-0 in favor of the Golden Wolves going into the final period.

Alvernia added an insurance goal with nine minutes to play in the third as Noelle De Magistris scored her first collegiate goal to put the game out of reach. The Knights and Golden Wolves combined for five power play attempts in the third period, but neither could convert. The two would finish the game a combined 0-for-13 on the power play opportunity.

Julia Beaven recorded her second shutout and third win of the season with a 23 save performance in goal. Franklin led Alvernia with two goals, and both Connick and Bradley finished with two assists. Lexi Hooper and Amber Steinhilpert finished with faceoff wins each, and Shae Hudec and Lauren Jasewsky finished with two blocks each.

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday afternoon looking for the sweep as the Golden Wolves host the Knights.
