Reading, Pa. (Feb. 10, 2023) - Alvernia University (7-13-2, 5-11-1) held #1 Utica University (19-2-1, 17-0) to just one goal in the first half, but the Pioneers put up five more the rest of the way as the Golden Wolves fell to the Pioneers 6-0 on Friday night in UCHC men's ice hockey action at Body Zone. 

Alvernia sent in three shots early, but Utica made three stops to keep Alvernia off the board.

The Pioneers broke through 11 minutes into the game with an even strength goal from Justin Allen. Alvernia kept the Pioneers from adding anymore the rest of the period as Utica took the 1-0 lead into the second.

Utica added its second of the night four minutes into the second, and then added two quick goals in a three minute span with five minutes to play in the period. Alvernia was held to eight shots on goal in the period, four of which came from Isaac Chapman. 

The Pioneers added two more in the third period - one power-play goal and one short-handed goal - as they held onto the shutout win.

Colin Cain finished with 45 saves in net for Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves are back in action tomorrow against the Pioneers.
