Nazareth Downs Alvernia, 4-0

Rochester, N.Y - (February 10th, 2023) - #14 Nazareth University (17-5-0, 16-1-0) scored three goals in the second period en route to a 4-0 victory over Alvernia University (10-9-3, 9-7-1) in UCHC women's ice hockey action Friday night at Nazareth. 

The Golden Flyers rattled off 16 shots on goal in the first period before Sydney Swanson found the back of the net thanks to assists from Maggie Pfalzgraf and Makenna Wiljanen to give Nazareth a 1-0 lead with five minutes to go in the period. 

Nazareth fired four more shots in the period but Alvernia's Mandy Kaminsky saved three to take the game into the first intermission with the Golden Flyers holding a 1-0 advantage. 

The Golden Flyers tallied their second goal just under seven minutes into the second period when Julia Holmes assisted Ally Watrous to make it 2-0 Nazareth. 

Three minutes later Nazareth made it a three goal game when Kate Cascio found the back of the net to give Nazareth a 3-0 advantage with ten minutes gone in the second period. 

The Golden Flyers tallied their third goal of the period with five minutes left in the period when Wiljanen put the puck in the back of the goal to put the game out of reach. 

Nazareth rattled off 19 shots in the final 20 minutes of play but Kaminsky tallied 15 saves during the period but Golden Flyers secured the 4-0 victory. 

Kaminsky tallied 50 saves in net for the Golden Wolves. 

The Golden Wolves were led by Kathryn Palmer who tallied four shots on goal and a team high eight face off wins, Laila Tosi and Amber Steinhilpert both tallied two shots on goal. 

Alvernia is back at Nazareth tomorrow to wrap up the weekend series with the Golden Flyers, game time is set for 4:30.
