Golden Wolves Run Past Mighty Macs, 18-8

Malvern, Pa. (Feb. 25, 2023) - Alvernia University (2-0) outscored Immaculata University (0-2) 9-3 in the second half as the Golden Wolves defeated the Mighty Macs 18-8 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Immaculata.

Natalie Frantz opened the game with back-to-back goals in the opening five minutes to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The Mighty Macs got one back with a goal with 9:37 to play in the first quarter, but Alvernia then went off and scored six straight goals to end the first quarter and open the second quarter to take an 8-1 lead with 13 minutes to play in the half. Haleigh Lackner and Olivia McCambly scored twice in the run, and Hailey Miller and Meagan Moky each scored once.

Alvernia was held to just one goal the rest of the half - a goal by Lackner off the assist of Sophia Ruocco - as Immaculata scored four to cut Alvernia's lead to four, 9-5, going into the half.

Much like the first half, Frantz opened the scoring to push Alvernia's lead back to five, 10-5. The Mighty Macs stayed in the game, though, scoring two goals in three minutes to get back within three, 10-7, with 8:39 to play in the quarter.

Alvernia then scored eight straight goals to start the running clock and go up 18-7 on the Mighty Macs five minutes to play. Moky scored twice on the run, and five different Golden Wolves contributed the other five goals. Cailyn Hawley netted her first career goal during the run, and Ruocco capped off the run with a man-up goal.

The Mighty Macs scored the final goal of the game with 47 seconds left, but Alvernia came away with the 18-8 win.

Lackner led Alvernia with four goals and two assists and picked up seven ground balls. Frantz also scored four goals for the Golden Wolves. Hawley finished with one goal and 10 draw controls.

Kirsten Lake made 10 saves in net for Alvernia to pick up the win.
