Arcadia Tops Alvernia, 3-1

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 3, 2023) - Arcadia University (10-8-2, 6-7-2) defeated Alvernia University (10-7-3, 9-5-1) 3-1 on Friday night in MAC and UCHC women's ice hockey action at Alvernia's Body Zone.

The Knights got on the board just 2:39 into the game as Morganne Dee grabbed a turnover on the blue lane and took it down the ice. Dee beat Alvernia goalie Julia Beaven to put the Knights up 1-0.

Alvernia outshot the Knights 11-4 on the period, but Alvernia was unable to even the game up.

The Knights and Golden Wolves played evenly through the second period. Arcadia had two power play opportunities, but was unable to add to its lead.

Alvernia started off the third period on a power play after the Knights were charged with a delay of game penalty going into the third. Alvernia had five opportunities on net, but the Golden Wolves were unable to even it up.

As the Knights killed off the penalty and returned to even strength, Arcadia came down the ice and were able to add to its lead with their second goal of the night to take a 2-0 advantage on Alvernia with 17:30 left in the game.

The Golden Wolves got one back six minutes later. After Alvernia pressured the Knights with multiple shots, Alvernia's Olivia Gilida was able to sneak the puck in off the right post to get Alvernia on the board and make it a 2-1 game with just under 12 minutes to play.

Alvernia was held without a shot over the next ten minutes, but were able to keep the Knights from adding to their lead.

The Golden Wolves went empty with a minute to go, but the Knights were able to score on the free net to make it a 3-1 final.

Beaven finished with 16 saves on the night. Gilida finished with one goal and five blocks, and Bradley added an assist. Kathryn Palmer finished the night with 14 faceoff wins.

Alvernia looks to even the series with the Knights tomorrow at Arcadia.
