Big Third Period Lifts Arcadia Over Alvernia, 3-1

Colmar, Pa. (Feb. 4, 2023) - Arcadia University (11-8-2, 7-7-2) scored three goals in the third period to take a 3-1 win over Alvernia University (10-8-3, 9-6-1) on Saturday afternoon in MAC and UCHC women's ice hockey action at Arcadia.

Alverina held a 1-0 advantage going into the final 15 minutes of action. But, Arcadia scored three goals in about seven minutes during the third period to take the 3-1 win over the Golden Wolves.

Alvernia got on the board with a goal by Gillian Evans off the assist of Sydney Bradley and Julia Franklin just under four minutes into the first period.

The Golden Wolves had a power play opportunity three minutes later, but were unable to tack onto their lead. Alvernia held off an onslaught of shots and two power play opportunities as the period came to a close to take a 1-0 lead into the second period.

Both teams played even through the second period, with Alvernia putting up eight shots on goal to Arcadia's ten. Alvernia also had a power play opportunity in the period, but was unable to add on to its lead.

Alvernia came out of the second intermission hot, sending five shots in early. But, the Knights were able to keep the Golden Wolves at bay. Arcadia then evened it up at 1-1 on a Campbell Torrey goal just under five minutes into the period.

A minute and a half later, the Knights took the lead on a putback goal by Drew Kuretsky on a power play for the Knights. The Knights continued to pressure and made it a 3-1 game with just over eight minutes to play on an even strength goal by Berklee Hibbard.

Alvernia earned a power play opportunity with six minutes to play, but the Golden Wolves were held to just one shot during the power play. The Golden Wolves were held to just one shot on goal in the final five minutes as the Knights took the 3-1 win and series sweep.

Julia Beaven finished with 31 saves in net for Alvernia. Shae Hudec finished with four blocks, and Abby Reisinger led Alvernia with nine faceoff wins.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Friday at Nazareth College.
