Alvernia Storms Past Elizabethtown, 32-10

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 4, 2023) - #17/#23 Alvernia University (14-6) defeated Elizabethtown College (9-6) 32-10 on Saturday night in a dual with the Blue Jays at Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court. 

It is Alvernia's second win over the Blue Jays this season.

Alvernia took a 3-0 lead on a 6-4 decision by Keito Shaw in the opening bout of the night. The Golden Wolves then made it a 6-0 match on a 9-2 decision by Anthony Portillo at 133 lbs, and made it 10-0 on a 14-3 major decision by Avery Leonard at 141 lbs.

The Golden Wolves went up 14-0 with an 11-0 major decision by Chance Babb at 149 lbs, but Alvernia faltered at 157 lbs as Rober Lawlor was pinned as the first period buzzer sounded.

Alvernia got back on trac at 165 lbs as Jason Rezac secured a 10-7 decision. Matthew Lackman then recorded Alvernia's first fall of the night as Lackman pinned Caden Droege at 174 lbs to give Alvernia the 23-6 lead.

Isaac Kassis then put the match out of reach for the Blue Jays as Kassis took a 10-4 decision at 184 lbs to make it a 26-6 match in favor of Alvernia. 

The Blue Jays got four back with a major decision over Zach Scheffler at 197 lbs, but Alvernia closed out the match with a bang as Palmer Rodenhaber pinned Dylan Waller in 5:44 in the heavyweight bout. Rodenhaber's pin secured a 32-10 win over the Blue Jays for Alvernia.

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday at Delaware Valley for a dual with the Aggies.
