Early Rally Lifts Golden Wolves Over Pride, 7-4

Chester, Pa (March 17, 2023) - Alvernia University (8-5, 4-0) scored all seven runs in the first two innings to take down Widener University (5-9,1-3) 7-4, in a MAC Commonwealth baseball matchup Friday afternoon at Widener. 

The Golden Wolves got on the board first when Mike Ramundo ripped a bases clearing triple to right center to drive in Zach Rogacki, Thomas Faggioni and Cameron Abele to put Alvernia up 3-0 early in the top of the first inning. Ramundo then scored on an RBI groundout by Nick Nutile to extend the lead to 4-0 Golden Wolves. 

Widener responded in the bottom half of the first when Stephen Posner singled to left and drove in two runs to cut the Alvernia lead in half, 4-2. 

Alvernia came back firing in the top of the second when Abele drove in Faggioni and Billy Dougar with a triple to right field, Ramundo singled to score Abele and give the Golden Wolves a 7-2 advantage early in the ballgame. 

The Pride grabbed one back in the bottom of the fifth when Anthony Boccio scored on an error to cut the Alvernia lead to 7-3. 

Widener kept chipping away and tallied another run in its half of the eighth when Ryan Bauerle hit a solo homer to left field to make it 7-4 Golden Wolves. 

The Golden Wolves shut down the Pride in the bottom half of the ninth to secure the 7-4 victory and take game one of the series. 

Michael Andrew got the win on the mound for the Golden Wolves and Shayne Ostrowsky earned the save in relief. 

Alvernia was led by Ramundo who went 3-5 with four RBIs, a triple and a run scored. Abele tallied two RBIs and Nutile added another and Faggioni recorded two runs scored. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action tomorrow when they host the Pride for game two and three of the series, first pitch is at 12:00 PM.
