Fox and Lackner Hit Career Milestones as Alvernia Downs Elizabethtown, 19-12

Reading, Pa. (March 22, 2023) - Alvernia University (6-2) jumped out to an 8-3 lead and never looked back as the Golden Wolves defeated Elizabethtown College (4-5) 19-12 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Alvernia.

Both Haleigh Lackner and Kasey Fox reached career milestones in the win for the Golden Wolves. Lackner finished the afternoon 11 draw controls to surpass the 200 career draw control mark and move into second all-time for Alvernia in career draw controls. Fox finished with 11 saves in net for Alvernia to pass the 300 career-save mark. Fox now sits at fifth all-time in career saves.

Alvernia started the game hot, scoring seven goals in just under eight minutes of action. Lackner opened the scoring with a goal in the first 56 seconds off the assist of Sherrin Smith, and then five additional Golden Wolves scored after with Natalie Frantz recording two goals.

The Blue Jays got on the board with two goals in under a minute with about four minutes to play in the first, but Alvernia tacked another onto its lead as Lackner recorded her second goal of the afternoon.

Elizabethtown scored the final goal of the quarter on a free position attempt to make it an 8-3 game going into the second frame.

Meagan Moky took the opening draw of the second quarter down the field and into net to score her second of the afternoon and make it a 9-3 game in favor of the Golden Wolves.

Alvernia continued to roll as Lackner made it a 10-3 game after taking a turnover by the Blue Jays straight to goal with 10:36 to play in the half.

The Blue Jays got one back two minutes later, but Smith made it a seven goal game just 26 seconds later with her second goal of the afternoon.

Alvernia tacked on its 12th goal of the game two minutes later as Frantz scored her third goal of the game following a caused turnover by Olivia Malone.

The Blue Jays scored the final goal of the half to make it a 12-5 game going into the final 30 minutes of action.

Smith opened the third quarter with her third goal of the game, and Sophia Ruocco got in on the scoring with 11 minutes to play in the third to make it a 14-5 game. 30 seconds later, a Lackner goal turned on the running clock as Alvernia took a 15-5 lead with 10:31 to play.

A goal from Moky and a free position goal from Olivia McCambly gave Alvernia the 17-5 lead with 4:26 to play in the third. The Blue Jays scored their only goal of the third quarter on a man-up free position shot with 42 seconds left to play in the third to make it a 17-6 game going into the final 15 minutes.

The Blue Jays came into the fourth quarter with some new energy, scoring four goals in the opening six minutes to turn off the running clock and put a bit of pressure on Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves called a timeout and regrouped, and goals from Lackner and McCambly got Alvernia back on track as Alvernia led 19-10 with 2:42 to play.

The Blue Jays scored the final two, but it was too little too late as Alvernia came away with the 19-12 win.

Fox finished with her milestone-marking 11 saves in net for the win.

Along with Lackner's 11 draw controls, she also finished with five goals and one assist. Frantz, Moky, McCambly, and Smith each finished with a hat trick, and Smith also added three assists.

Alvernia's defense held Elizabethtown's Sam Deicio - who was coming off eight, and ten goal games and had 51 goals on the season - to just four goals on the afternoon.

The Golden Wolves have off on Saturday before returning on action on Wednesday with their MAC Commonwealth opener at #11 Messiah.
