Grantham, Pa. (March 29, 2023) - Alvernia University (6-3, 0-1) dropped its MAC Commonwealth opener to #11 Messiah University (8-1, 1-0) by a 21-6 decision on Wednesday afternoon in women's lacrosse action at Messiah.

After Messiah jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, the Golden Wolves evened it up 2-2 after three minutes of action with goals from Meagan Moky and Mackenzie McKinney. The Golden Wolves then trailed the Falcons 4-3 just past the midpoint of the opening quarter as Alvernia added another goal from Sherrin Smith, but Messiah scored four straight to close out the quarter with an 8-3 lead.

Alvernia and the Falcons traded goals to open the second quarter with Hailey Miller netting Alvernia's fourth goal of the game, but Messiah then went on an 11-0 run that took the game well into the fourth quarter.

The Golden Wolves got two back at the end with goals from Haleigh Lackner and Moky, but Messiah scored the final goal as the clock ran out for the 21-6 win.

Kasey Fox and Kirsten Lake split time in net for Alvernia, with Fox making nine saves and Lake stopping seven.

Moky led Alvernia with two points on two goals and finished with five ground balls.

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday hosting Albright College.
