Reading, Pa (March 29, 2023) - Messiah University (8-2, 1-0) scored ten unanswered goals to defeat Alvernia University (4-5, 0-1) 16-4, in a MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse game Wednesday afternoon at Alvernia. 

Messiah got out to an early lead in the first quarter, netting four goals in the first ten minutes to go up 4-0. 

Alvernia's Kenny Howley scored an unassisted goal with over a minute to go in the first quarter to make it 4-1 Messiah. 

The Falcons would then rip off ten unanswered goals from the second quarter until the final five minutes of the third quarter to take a commanding 14-1 lead. Ben Ferrell tallied five of the ten goals and Bobby Berg added two. 

Howley tallied his second goal of the game with 21 seconds left in the third quarter to halt the Falcons scoring run, but Messiah still held a commanding 14-2 lead. 

Howley then netted his third of the game just 15 seconds into the final stanza thanks to an assist from Peter Capasso to make it 14-3. 

Ferrell recorded his seventh goal of the game two minutes later to make it 15-3 Falcons. 

Jack Keenan tallied the final goal for the Golden Wolves with just over four minutes remaining in the game, making it 15-4. 

Berg notched his third with three minutes left to extend the lead to 12 and secure the 16-4 victory over the Golden Wolves. 

Dane Sabarese started in net for the Golden Wolves and tallied 21 saves. 

Alvernia was led by Howley with three goals, Keenan added another and Capasso recorded the only assist. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action Saturday when they host cross-town rival Albright College at 2:00 PM.
