Alvernia Splits Series With Haverford

Fort Myers, FL. (March 5, 2023) - Alvernia University (3-3) exploded for 20 runs in game two to halve the series against Haverford (1-3) in a non-conference baseball double header Sunday afternoon at Terry Park in Fort Myers.

The Golden Wolves dropped the first game by a score of 5-1 but scored 13 runs in the first two innings of the second game to split the series.

Haverford got on the board first in game one of the double header when Daniel Rosman singled and drove in two runs to put Haverford up 2-0 in the top of the second inning.

The Golden Wolves pulled one back in the bottom half of the third inning when Zach Rogacki grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Billy Dougar to score from third to make it 2-1 after three innings.

Haverford responded in the top half of the fourth with an RBI double off the bat of Zach Crampton that scored Chuck Norton to put Haverford up 3-1.

Haverford tallied two more insurance runs in the top of the sixth when Crampton hit a two run homerun to extend the lead to 5-1 and put the game out of reach.

Thomas Faggioni and Nick Nutile led the Golden Wolves in game one with two hits a piece, Rogacki tallied one RBI and Dougar scored Alvernia's only run. Jack Cossa started on the hill for the Golden Wolves, striking out four batters in four innings pitched.

The Golden Wolves struck first in game two when Jason Kelly ripped a bases clearing double that drove in three runs to put Alvernia up 3-0 with two out in the top of the first. A Brandon Smith RBI single up the middle and Jason Lind belted a two run homer to put the Golden Wolves up 6-0.

Harry Genth started the bottom of the first with a leadoff home run to pull one run back for Haverford in the bottom half of the inning.

Alvernia kept the bats rolling in the second inning, plating seven runs to extend the lead to 13-1. Matt Edwards ripped a two RBI double, Evan Thomas and Smith both added RBI singles and Lind recorded a sac fly. Dougar ripped an RBI double and then later scored on an error to finish off the seven run inning.

Kelly made it 14-1 in the third inning when he singled through the left side to score Thomas.

The Golden Wolves put four more runs on the board in the fourth starting with a Faggioni RBI single, Fagginoi then scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 16-1. Rogacki scored on an error by the Haverford shortstop and Lind recorded a two RBI single to left field to make it 19-1.

Alvernia put one more across the plate in the fifth inning when Jacob Rodriguez scored on an error by the shortstop to cap off a 20 run showing.

Jake Umans started on the mound for the Golden Wolves and is credited with the win. Umans allowed only three hits and one run over six innings pitched and struck out nine, the most in a single game since 2020. Lind and Kelly both drove in five runs on two hits, Edwards and Smith both tallied two RBI's and Faggioni, Rogacki and Thomas all scored three runs a piece.

The Golden Wolves are back in action tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM when they take on North Central University in Fort Myers.
