Hood Downs Alvernia, 13-4

Frederick, Md (April 15, 2023) - Alvernia University (4-9, 0-5) fell to Hood College (7-5, 1-3) 13-4, in a MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse matchup Saturday afternoon at Hood. 

Hood scored eight unanswered goals and used an 8-1 lead at the half en route to a 13-4 victory. 

The Blazers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead within the first three minutes of the first quarter with Owen McDermott and Nino Rizzolino netting goals. 

The Golden Wolves responded with an unassisted goal from Kenny Howley with just under six minutes left in the first quarter to cut the lead to 2-1. 

Hood tallied one more goal before the end of the quarter to take a 3-1 lead after one quarter of play. 

Hood came out and scored five goals in the second quarter to take a seven goal lead into the half. Hood's Robbie Wiley tallied two goals and Rio Muldoon, Austin Palmer and Aiden Gilsdorf all added goals as the Blazers extended the lead to 8-1. 

The Blazers came out and scored two goals in the first seven minutes of the third stanza with Bryan Seavey netting both to push the lead to 10-1. 

Alvernia's Kyle Patton answered with an unassisted goal just under the seven minute mark which halted an eight goal run by the Blazers but Hood maintained a commanding 10-2 lead. 

Howley tallied his second goal of the game just over two minutes later thanks to an assist from Peter Capasso to cut the Hood lead to seven, 10-3. 

Neither team would score in the final four minutes of the third quarter as the Blazers took a 10-3 lead into the fourth quarter. 

The Golden Wolves came out and netted a goal in the first three minutes of the fourth stanza when Jack Keenan found Ryan Gilman who fired the ball into the back of the net to bring Alvernia within six, 10-4. 

Hood would tally the final three goals of the contest with Wiley, Seavey and Michael Hilliard all netting goals to secure the 13-4 victory. 

Dane Sabarese started in net for the Golden Wolves and tallied 17 saves. 

Howley led Alvernia with two goals on six shots, Patton and Gilman also added goals and Keenan and Capasso both tallied assists. Michael Ferrera picked up a team high five ground balls and Jack Kenney picked up four. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action Wednesday when they host Widener for a MAC Commonwealth matchup at 4:00 PM.
