Grantham, Pa. (April 17, 2023) - Alvernia University (8-5, 3-2) edged out a 5-4 win over Messiah University (5-8, 2-3) on Monday evening in MAC Commonwealth women's tennis action at Messiah.

Alvernia grabbed two points in doubles play to get things rolling. Rachel Rineer and Jillian Laughman picked up an 8-0 win at #2 doubles, and Leah Bouchard and Lily Sumerson picked up an 8-7 (7-4) win at #1 doubles.

Bouchard then picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at #1 singles, and Laughman took a 6-1, 6-3 win at #3 singles. Rineer then picked up the fifth and final point for Alvernia with a 6-3, 6-3 win at #4 singles.

Alvernia sits in third place in MAC Commonwealth standings with two conference matches remaining. Alvernia will head to Albright tomorrow to take on the Lions, who are one match back of the Golden Wolves.
