Reading, Pa. (April 18, 2023) - Alvernia University (9-5, 4-2) picked up a big 5-4 win over Albright College (9-6, 2-4) on Tuesday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's tennis action at Albright.

Alvernia jumped out a 2-1 lead following doubles play. Jillian Laughman and Rachel Rinner picked up an 8-0 straight set win at #2 doubles, and Elizabeth Danovich and Sarah Mies went 8-5 at #3 doubles. Alvernia nearly picked up a third win at #1 doubles, but Albright won on the tiebreaker.

Alvernia then dropped matches at #1, #2, and #6 singles, making wins at the middle matches crucial. Laughman came through with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #3 singles, and Rineer went 6-3, 6-0 at #4 singles. Danovich then picked up the final needed point at #5 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win.

With the win, Alvernia improves to 4-2 in MAC Commonwealth action with one match to play. With today's win over Albright, Alvernia clinched a spot in the MAC Commonwealth Championship.
