Reading, Pa. (April 20, 2023) - After securing a win in game one, Alvernia University (16-10) walked it off in game two to take a sweep of Ursinus College (22-11) on Thursday afternoon in non-conference softball action at Alvernia.

Alvernia took game one by a score of 5-1, but were being dealt a no-hitter going into the bottom of the seventh. Jaclyn Barbera led off the inning with a double to end Ursinus' bid at a no-hitter. Alvernia then plated a run to tie it up before Paige Paciolla hit a fly ball to left field with the bases loaded. Megan Poley tagged up from third and scored for the go-ahead run and the 2-1 win for the Golden Wolves.

In game one of the afternoon, the Bears and Golden Wolves were locked in a 0-0 tie going into the bottom of the third. Julia Burkhardt reached on a fielder's choice and Barbera walked to put two on with one out. Allison Kirschner then hammered a homer to the scoreboard to put Alvernia up 3-0. 

The Bears got one back in the top of the fourth on an RBI double to make it a 3-1 game.

The Golden Wolves then tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles by Barbera and Emily Sano to give Alvernia the 5-1 lead going into the final inning. The Bears never threatened in the top of the seventh as Alvernia came away with the 5-1 game one win.

Ashlyn Hillanbrand got the complete game win in the circle, dealing four strikeouts and allowing just one run.

Kirschner went 3-for-4 with a homerun and a double, along with three RBIs.

In game two, Alvernia was held without a hit going into the bottom of the seventh. After Ursinus plated a run in the top of the seventh, Alvernia had just the bottom of the inning to make it up.

Barbera led off the inning with a double to the center field wall to end the no-hitter. Kalli Bunnell came in to pinch run for Barbera, and made her way to third on a Kirschner single. Brooke Weister then singled to right to score Bunnell and even the game up at 1-1.

The Bears then walked Burkhardt to load the bases as Alvernia sent Paciolla to the plate. Paciolla faced a 1-2 count before sending a fly ball to left field. Poley - who was pinching running for Kirschner - tug up and beat the tag at the plate to give Alvernia the go-ahead run and the 2-1 win.

Kirschner led Alvernia with two base appearances on a walk and single. Maggie Loomis got the win in the circle with a complete game appearance. 

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday hosting Hood for senior day.
