Golden Wolves Sweep Lions, 3-0

Reading, Pa (September 12, 2023) - Alvernia University (2-2) took down Bryn Athyn College (0-4) 3-0 in straight sets on Tuesday night in a non-conference women's volleyball matchup at Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court. 

Both teams traded points back and forth early in the first set, but with the set tied at ten, the Golden Wolves rattled off four of the next six points to take a 14-12 lead. 

Alvernia would then score five straight points thanks to an ace by Rachel Sipling and kills from Emma Remaley and Julianna McGlone to take a 19-12 lead. 

The Lions grabbed a few points back, but the Golden Wolves ripped off five of the final six points of the set to take set one 25-17. 

The Golden Wolves jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead in the second set with an ace from McGlone, two from Presley Carnes and two kills from Lindsay Ferguson

Alvernia continued to apply the pressure, scoring five of the next nine points to extend the lead to 15-6 after errors by the Lions. 

The Golden Wolves then ripped off a six point run to make it 21-6. Cierra Roberts recorded two kills, McGlone recorded two aces and Sipling hammered home a kill. 

The Lions would grab a few points back, but Alvernia chipped away to take the second set, 25-11 after McGlone hammered home the set winning kill. 

Both the Lions and Golden Wolves traded points at the start of the third set with Bryn Athyn taking a 10-6 lead early in the set. 

Alvernia responded right away with a 7-3 scoring run to tie the set at 13 thanks to kills from Sipling and Remaley. 

The teams continued to trade points back and forth as the third set came to a close with the Golden Wolves holding the slight 18-17 advantage. 

Alvernia capitalized on a few Lions' errors and tallied seven of the final 11 points of the match to take the third set by a score of 25-21 and sweep the Lions 3-0. 

Sipling led Alvernia with 15 kills, McGlone led in blocks with two and aces with three and Hailey McDevitt recorded 17 assists for the Golden Wolves. 

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Marywood for a tri-match with the Pacers and Keuka College at 11:00 PM.
