Alvernia Sweeps Rosemont in Straight Sets

Reading, Pa (September 14, 2023) - Alvernia University (3-2) took down Rosemont College (0-5) 3-0, in straight sets in a non-conference women's volleyball matchup Thursday night at Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court. 

The Golden Wolves took the first set 25-17, the second set 25-2 and the third set 25-12.

Alvernia jumped out to an early 5-2 lead thanks to four kills from Rachel Sipling and one from Presley Carnes

The Ravens grabbed a few points back to pull within two and make it 7-5, but the Golden Wolves ripped off five straight points to take a 12-5 lead. 

Both teams continued to trade points back and forth with Alvernia holding a commanding 18-12 advantage. The Golden Wolves then recorded a 6-1 scoring run to extend the lead to 24-13. Cierra Roberts, Emma Remaley and Sipling all tallied kills during the run. 

The Ravens grabbed four straight points to make it a 24-17 game, but a kill by Remaley ended the first set in favor of the Golden Wolves. 

Alvernia came out flying in the second set and jumped out to an early 4-1 lead. 

The Golden Wolves then ripped off 19 straight points to take a commanding 23-1 lead. Abigail McGinley recorded five aces, Hailey McDevitt, Sipling and Roberts all recorded multiple kills during the scoring run. 

The Ravens grabbed one back, but Alvernia tallied the last two points of the set to take the second set 25-2 and take a 2-0 advantage in the match. 

The Golden Wolves came out hot again in the third set, this time jumping out to a 11-2 lead early in the final set. Kayleigh Kehler, Patrica Falar and Carnes all recorded kills during the run and Sipling tallied three aces. 

Rosemont and Alvernia would trade points back and forth, but Alvernia maintained a nine point lead, 18-9 heading into the final points of the third set. 

The Golden Wolves then scored seven of the final ten points of the match with Lindsay Ferguson hammering home the final point of the match as Alvernia took set three 25-12 and the match 3-0. 

Sipling led Alvernia with 12 kills, McGinley recorded six aces and nine digs. McDevitt recorded 13 assists and Jamie Pierce led with two blocks. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday when they travel up to Marywood to take on the Pacers and Keuka College in a tri-match starting at 11:00 AM.
