Cortland, N.Y. (September 16, 2023) - Alvernia University (2-3) dropped a non-conference men's soccer matchup to #23 SUNY Cortland 4-1, on Saturday night at Cortland.
The Golden Wolves grabbed an early goal, but four unanswered goals by the Red Dragons saw them secure the 4-1 victory.
Alvernia got on the board in the fourth minute of the contest when
Ryan Cogill connected with
Justin Fetrow who found the back of the net to give Alvernia an early 1-0 lead.
Cortland evened the score in the 27th minute when Logan Comfort assisted Matt Schultz who slipped his shot inside the right post to even the score at one heading into the half.
The Red Dragons came out firing in the second half and grabbed the lead just under two minutes into the half when Yasin Chourki found the back of the net thanks to an assist from Shultz to make it 2-1 Cortland.
Cortland made it 3-1 just under ten minutes later when Comfort tallied his second assist of the day after he connected with Jack Coleman to extend the Cortland lead to two.
Coleman tallied his second goal of the night and made it 4-1 in the 81st minute after an assist by Scott Schuyler to secure the 4-1 victory for the Red Dragons.
Evan Solley tallied nine saves in net for the Golden Wolves.
Fetrow led the Golden Wolves with a goal and Cogill added an assist. Cogill also tallied three shots with two on goal.
Alvernia travels to Montclair State on Wednesday to take on the Hawks at 7:00 PM.
