Lancaster, Pa. (Sep. 20, 2023) - Alvernia University (3-4) dropped a 5-0 decision to Franklin and Marshall College (2-5) on Wednesday evening in non-conference field hockey action at Franklin and Marshall.

The Diplomats, who currently have the toughest strength of schedule in Division III, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes and never looked back. Franklin and Marshall scored early in the 8th minute and again two minutes later. 

The game then went scoreless for the next 15 minutes until Caitlin Hoover scored her second goal of the game in the 26th minute to make it a 3-0 game going into the half.

Hoover then made it a hat trick with the opening goal of the second half to give the Diplomats a 4-0 lead in the 34th minute. Alvernia's Olivia Hess fired a shot on goal in the 37th minute, but it was saved to keep Alvernia off the board. 

Alvernia had another opportunity in the 56th minute off the stick of Rosnelly Sanchez De Aza, but the Diplomats again kept Alvernia off the board. 

Franklin and Marshall tacked one more on in the 59th minute for the 5-0 final. 

Lexi Boettcher and Hannah Wolfe split time in net for Alvernia. Boettcher finished with six saves in the first half, and Wolfe had two saves in the second half.

Alvernia is back in action on Sunday hosting Kean.
