Cavaliers Take Down Golden Wolves, 2-0

Randor, Pa (September 27, 2023) - Alvernia University (3-5) fell to Cabrini University (5-3) 2-0, in a non-conference field hockey matchup Wednesday night at Cabrini.

Cabrini highlighted a scoreless first quarter by sending the only four shots in the quarter and sent three on goal, but Alvernia goalie Lexi Boettcher saved all three to keep the score tied at zero.

The Golden Wolves responded in the second quarter and fired four shots, including three on goal and tallied two penalty corners. Kathryn Palmer fired a shot on goal along with Caroline Martin and Ava Michael, who fired shots during the quarter as well.

Cavalier's goalie Courtney Keith saved all three of the shots on target to keep the game tied at zero heading into the half.

Cabrini broke the tie within the first four minutes of the third quarter when Caroline Gallagher connected with Molly McGee who found the back of the cage to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead.

The Cavaliers then made it 2-0 just before the end of the third quarter after Morgan McClintock tallied a goal after assists from Daly Ewing and Gallagher, who tallied her second assist of the night.

The Golden Wolves tried to find the back of the net in the fourth quarter with Hailey Miller firing a shot and Martin fired a shot that was saved by Cabrini's Keith as the Cavaliers held the 2-0 lead.

Alvernia had a chance to pull one back in the 57th minute when the Golden Wolves were awarded a penalty stroke. Palmer stepped to the spot for Alvernia but her shot was denied by the post and Cabrini secured the 2-0 victory.

Boettcher recorded four saves in goal for Alvernia.

Martin led the Golden Wolves with three shots and two on goal, Palmer added two and one on target and Michael and Brianna Burkholder both recorded one shot.

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Lebanon Valley to take on the Dutchmen at 1:00 PM.
