Late Goal From Palmer Leads Alvernia to 4-3 Win Over Lebanon Valley

Annville, Pa. (Sept. 30, 2023) - A goal from Alvernia University's (4-5) Kathryn Palmer with just under two minutes remaining lifted Alvernia to a 4-3 win over Lebanon Valley College (6-4) on Saturday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Lebanon Valley.

The Golden Wolves led 3-1 through the first nearly 45 minutes. But, Lebanon Valley scored two goals late to even it up at 3-3. Palmer then broke the tie with a goal in the 59th minute to secure the 4-3 win for Alvernia.

The Dutchmen opened the scoring early with a goal in the sixth minute, but Alvernia answered in the 13th minute with a goal from Abbie Buck off a rebounded shot by Olivia Catalano.

Caroline Martin then broke the 1-1 tie for Alvernia with a goal six minutes into the second quarter. The Golden Wolves then made it a two-goal game three minutes later as Rori Caulfield found Olivia Hess off a corner to give Alvernia the 3-1 lead.

The Golden Wolves took their two goal lead into the half and held it for nearly the entire third quarter. But, Lebanon Valley got within one, 3-2, in the final seconds of the third quarter.

The Dutchmen then tied it up at 3-3 with four minutes to play in the fourth quarter after a successful corner attempt.

Two minutes later, Palmer broke the 3-3 tie after Alvernia was awarded a corner. Palmer collected the insert at the top of the circle, beat her defender, and fired a hard shot into the back of the goal from ten yards out to give Alvernia the 4-3 lead with two minutes to play. Lebanon Valley did not have a shot opportunity in the final two minutes as Alvernia took the 4-3 win.

Lexi Boettcher and Hannah Wolfe split time in net for Alvernia. Boettcher finished with two saves in the first half, and Wolfe had three in the second half.

Alvernia is back in action on Tuesday hosting Susquehanna.
