Reading, Pa. (Sept. 20, 2023) - Alvernia University (1-5-1) used two first half goals en route to a 2-0 win over Goucher College (2-1-3) on Wednesday night in non-conference women's soccer action at Alvernia. 

Alvernia's win tonight marks it first of the season and the first under first year head coach Amanda Bezner.

Alvernia got on the board in the 12th minute after Macy McDonough knocked it into net off the header of Olivia Malone to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead. 

The Gophers pressured over the next 20 minutes, but Alvernia was able to keep them off the board.

Alvernia doubled up on its lead late in the 43rd minute as the the first half was coming to a close as Gianna Ordanoff had a look at an empty net and fired to give Alvernia the 2-0 lead.

Coming out of the half, Goucher pressured early and kept its foot on the gas much through the final 45 minutes. The Gophers had eight shots in the final 45 minutes, and had two solid looks called off for offsides. Alvernia only fired off one shot on goal in the second half, but Alvernia's first half effort along with a strong defensive hold was enough for the Golden Wolves win.

Bock finished with five saves in net to record her second straight shutout.

Women's Soccer is back in action on Saturday at Marywood.
