Fords Blank Golden Wolves

Haverford, Pa. (Sept. 6, 2023) - Haverford College (1-2) used two first half goals to take a 2-0 win over Alvernia University (0-3) on Wednesday night in non-conference women's soccer action at Haverford.

Alvernia had the first look on net as Madison Rotkiske sent a shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the attempt was saved as the game stayed at 0-0 early on.

The Fords then peppered Alvernia's net with several attempts over the next ten minutes, but no shots were placed on net as Alvernia kept Haverford off the board through the 17th minute. But, the Fords struck early in the 18th minute as Haverford's Keira Prince sent a cross over to Sophia Miranda, who was charging in off the left post with a 1v1 look at Alvernia keeper Brynn Bock. Miranda then fired a shot across the net and into goal just inside the right post to give the Fords a 1-0 advantage.

A minute later, the Fords nearly made it a 2-0 game as they had another 1v1 look against Bock, but the shot ricocheted off the post and kept Haverford from adding onto its lead.

After nearly 35 minutes without a shot, Kalyn Keen sent one in on net for the Golden Wolves. But, the attempt was saved as the Fords kept Alvernia off the board.

The Fords did not settle for a 1-0 lead going into the half and tacked on a goal late in the 43rd minute to take a 2-0 lead. This time around, Prince got her own look against Bock coming right down the center of the field. Prince then fired a shot inside the right post from just outside the box to give the Fords the 2-0 advantage, which they would take into the break.

The Fords came out firing on Bock and the Alvernia defense, but the Golden Wolves held them off the board to stay within two.

Alvernia's Madison Rotkiske had a fantastic shot on goal in the 65th minute, but Haverford's keeper made a fantastic jump save to knock Rotkiske's shot up and over the crossbar to keep Alvernia off the board and maintain the shutout.

The shot from Rotkiske in the 65th minute would turn out to be Alvernia's final look on goal as the Fords came away with the 2-0 win.

Alvernia was outshot 39-5 overall, and 12-4 on goal. Bock finished with nine saves in goal for Alvernia. Rotkiske led with two shots on goal.

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday hosting PSU Berks at 4:00 PM.
