BOX SCORE Frederick, Md. (January 24, 2024) - Alvernia University (12-6, 4-3) dropped a MAC Commonwealth men's basketball matchup to Hood College (14-3, 6-1), 81-55, Wednesday night at Hood.
Alvernia held a 14-13 lead with ten minutes to go in the half but the Blazers ripped off a 31-13 run to end the half and take a 44-27 lead at the break. The Blazers never looked back and outscored the Golden Wolves 37-28 in the second half en route to the 81-55 victory.
The Golden Wolves drop to 12-6 with the loss and 4-3 in the MAC Commonwealth and Hood advances to 14-3 and 6-1 in the Commonwealth.
How it Happened
- The Golden Wolves grabbed a slight, 14-13 lead in the first ten minutes of the game with Nigel Cooke recording six, Kyle Gordon tallied four and Kegan Hertz and Malik Slay both added two.
- Hood came roaring back with a 31-13 scoring run in the final ten minutes of the first half to grab the 17 point lead at the half. Hood's Garrett Cox tallied 13 during the run. Alvernia's Jalil Schenck recorded eight of Alvernia's 13 points during the stretch.
- The Blazers came out and continued to hold its lead in the first five minutes of the second half, maintaining a 53-34 lead.
- Hood continued to score the basketball and recorded 28 of the final 49 points in the final 13 minutes of the second half en route to the 81-55 victory.

- Nigel Cooke led the way for the Golden Wolves with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists. Cooke also knocked down three, three pointers.
- Jalil Schenck tallied 11 points and also knocked down three from beyond the arc.
- Kyle Gordon led the Golden Wolves with ten boards and added nine points and three blocks.
- Hood's Garrett Cox led all scores with 25 and went 10-14 from the floor and 3-6 from beyond the arc.
- The Blazers had 14 players scratch their name on the scoresheet with at least one point.
