Golden Wolves Take Down Rival Lions, 3-1

Reading, Pa (October 11, 2024) - Olivia Swartz netted two first half goals to power Alvernia University (6-7-1, 1-1) to a 3-2 victory over Albright College (1-8-2, 0-2) in a MAC Commonwealth women's soccer matchup at Alvernia.

Haley Dougherty provided the assists on both of Swartz's goals, both of which came in the first 15 minutes of the contest. The Golden Wolves were then gifted an own goal by the Lions to make it 3-0. Albright grabbed a goal back in the final five minutes of the first half but a scoreless second half saw the Golden Wolves secure the 3-1 victory over their crosstown rivals.

How it Happened
  • Olivia Swartz opened up the scoring just eight minutes into the game after Haley Dougherty whipped in a cross from a corner, the ball found Swartz on the back post and she finished it into the back of the net to give the Golden Wolves an early 1-0 lead.
  • Albright was awarded a penalty kick just over 12 minutes into the half but Mackenzie Sowers sent her attempt high over the crossbar as Alvernia maintained a 1-0 advantage.
  • Swartz bagged her second goal of the night just two minutes later after Dougherty whipped in another cross from a corner kick and found Swartz again but this time Swartz headed the ball down and into the bottom corner of the net and past the keeper to extend Alvernia's lead to two, 2-0.
  • Alvernia went up 3-0 in the 22nd minute after being gifted an own goal by the Lions made it a three goal game with over 20 minutes to play in the first half.
  • The Lions pulled one back in the final four minutes of the half after Audrey Solt ripped a free kick from distance that got through everyone and snuck into the bottom right corner of the goal to make it 3-1.
  • In a scoreless second half, the Lions outshot the Golden Wolves 9-4 with three going on net, but Alvernia's Brynn Bock saved all three shots on target to secure the 3-1 victory over crosstown rivals Albright.
