Golden Wolves Run by Lions, 4-0, Behind Cogill’s Career Night

Cogill Sets New Program Record for Goals and Points in the Win

Reading, Pa (October 12, 2024) - Senior Ryan Cogill netted two goals and added two assists to lead Alvernia University (6-5-3, 1-1) to a 4-0 shutout victory over Albright College (7-5, 0-2) Saturday night in a MAC Commonwealth men's soccer matchup at Alvernia.

Cogill came into the night tied with the career points record and goals record with 87 career points and 35 career goals. Cogill broke both records with his opening goal in the 12th minute to break Assistant Coach Justin Allegra's career points record of 87 and also broke Anthony Clemente's career goals record of 35. Cogill currently sits at 93 career points and 37 career goals.

The Golden Wolves opened up the scoring in the 12th minute and netted two more in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break. Alvernia then came out and tallied one more insurance goal in the second half to secure the 4-0 victory over crosstown rivals Albright.

How it Happened
  • Ryan Cogill started the scoring for the Golden Wolves after Justin Poles played a fantastic cross field pass to Cogill, he controlled it and beat a defender and fired his shot low and across the goal and into the bottom corner of the goal to break both records and put Alvernia up 1-0 early.
  • Alvernia doubled its lead in the 24th minute of the game after Cogill flipped a beautiful ball to Zeke Zambrano down the sideline. Zambrano then glided down the field and slotted his attempt past the Albright keeper and into the back of the net to make it 2-0 Golden Wolves.
  • Connor Kraycik notched his name on the scoresheet five minutes later thanks to another great through ball from Cogill, Kraycik fended off a Lions defender and slipped his shot past the keeper and into the goal to make it 3-0 with under 20 minutes to go in the first half.
  • The Alvernia defense held the Lions without a shot in the final 20 minutes of the first half to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • The Golden Wolves added one final insurance goal just seven minutes into the second half after Kraycik assisted Cogill who tallied his second goal of the game to make it 4-0 Golden Wolves with just under 30 minutes left in the contest.
  • Albright sent five shots at the Alvernia net with two going on goal but Alvernia keeper Evan Solley saved them both to secure the 4-0 shutout victory for the Golden Wolves.
