Mustangs Sweep Golden Wolves, 3-0

Owings Mills, MD (Oct 15, 2024) - Alvernia University (9-10, 0-4) dropped a 3-0 decision to Stevenson University (11-9, 2-2), 3-0, on Tuesday night in MAC Commonwealth women's volleyball action at Stevenson.

The Mustangs took the match with a three set sweep following 25-19, 25-18, and 25-7 set wins over the Golden Wolves.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia led the first set early, taking a 5-3 lead on a kill from Kayleigh Kehler. But, the Mustangs tied the set at 5-5 two points later, and the set remained tied 17-17 later through the frame. Stevenson then closed out the first set on an 8-2 run to take the first set, 25-19, and take the early 1-0 match lead.
  • The Mustangs jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second set. Alvernia got on the board on a block from Presley Carnes. Alveria battled back into the set and got within one point, 9-8, on an ace from Kehler. Alvernia stayed close and was still within one, 16-15, following an ace from Julianna McGlone. But, as they did in the first set, the Mustangs pulled away late. The Mustangs went on an 8-0 run to get to set point, 24-15. Alvernia battled off set point three times, but the Mustangs closed out the set on a kill to take the set, 25-18, and take a 2-0 match lead.
  • Stevenson made quick work of the third set. The Mustangs jumped out to a 5-0 lead and led 13-2 midway through the set. Alvernia never threatened in the final frame as the Mustangs took it, 25-7, and the match, 3-0.
Inside the Box Score
  • Kayleigh Kehler finished with a team-high six kills on 45 attacks. She also had a team high 13 digs.
  • Hailey McDevitt finished with a team-high 12 assists. She also had nine digs.
