Dallas, Pa (October 17, 2024) - Alvernia University (9-10) dropped a non-conference women's volleyball match to Misericordia University (20-4) 3-0, Thursday night at Misericordia.

The Cougars took all three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-17 to secure the 3-0 victory.

How it Happened

Alvernia and Misericordia traded points back and forth to start the first set before the Golden Wolves grabbed a 13-9 lead. Allison Wolf and Julianna McGlone both tallied two kills during the stretch and Olivia Rohrbaugh and Jamie Pierce tallied kills as well. The Cougars responded with a 10-4 scoring run to swing the lead in their favor, 19-17 and force an Alvernia timeout. Misericordia then ended the set on a 6-2 scoring stretch to take the first set 25-19.
The Golden Wolves took an early 5-2 lead over the Cougars but Misericordia bounced back with a massive 14-5 run to take a six point, 16-10 lead and force a Golden Wolves timeout. The Golden Wolves and the Cougars traded the final 18 points of the set 9-9 but it was not enough as the Cougars took the second set 25-19 and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
Misericordia stayed hot at the start of the third set and jumped out to a big 15-7 lead and forced Alvernia to call a timeout. Abigail McGinley and Cierra Roberts both tallied kills for Alvernia during the run. Alvernia and Misericordia traded the next 12 points at an even 6-6 but the Cougars still held a 21-13 advantage. The Cougars then scored four of the final eight points of the third set to secure the 25-17 victory in set three and take the 3-09 victory in the match.
