Golden Wolves Fall to Eagles, 3-0

St. Davids, Pa (October 23, 2024) - Alvernia University (9-12, 0-5) fell to Eastern University (15-6, 5-0) 3-0, Wednesday night in a MAC Commonwealth women's volleyball match at Eastern. 

The Eagles secured the sweep with a 25-12 victory in set one, 25-23 in set two and secured the victory with a 25-12 third set. 

How it Happened
  • The Eagles controlled the start of the first set, jumping out to an early 17-8 lead over the Golden Wolves. Allie Evangelista and Presley Carnes both recorded two kills for Alvernia during the stretch and Kayleigh Kehler added another. The Golden Wolves cut the lead to eight, 19-11 but the Eagles responded with a 6-1 run to end the set and take the first set 25-12. 
  • Eastern got out to another early lead in the second set, this one a 10-5 lead to start the second set but the Golden Wolves bounced back with a 7-4 run to cut it to a two point, 14-12 game. Kehler added two kills and Olivia Rohrbaugh also added a kill. The Golden Wolves and the Eagles battled for the next nine points with Eastern taking five of the nine to make it a 19-16 game, forcing an Alvernia timeout. Alvernia ended the set on a 7-6 run but it was not enough as the Eagles made it a 2-0 match with a 25-23 set two win. 
  • Eastern continued to get out to leads in the third set, taking a commanding 15-5 lead to start the third set. The Eagles then ended the set on a 10-7 scoring stretch to secure the 3-0 victory with a 25-12 win in the third set.

  • The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday at home when they host Rutgers-Newark and Brooklyn College for a tri-match in the PEC. Alvernia is slated to play the 11:00 AM match against Rutgers-Newark and the 3:00 PM match against Brooklyn.
