Golden Wolves Net Five, Take Down Rival Lions, 5-1

Reading, Pa (October 19, 2024) - Five different Golden Wolves found the back of the net to power Alvernia University (9-5, 2-1) past crosstown rivals Albright College (5-10, 1-2) 5-1, Saturday morning in a MAC Commonwealth field hockey matchup at Albright. 

The Golden Wolves held a 1-0 lead heading into the half but then put two goals past the Lions in both the third and fourth quarters to secure the 5-1 victory over their rivals. 

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves got things going early after Kathryn Palmer netted an unassisted goal in the fourth minute of play to put Alvernia up 1-.0. 
  • The Lions put two shots at the Alvernia net in the final five minutes of the quarter but one was blocked by the Alvernia defense and the other went wide as Alvernia held a 1-0 advantage heading to the second quarter. 
  • A scoreless second quarter was highlighted by Alvernia's Palmer sending the only shot of the quarter but it was saved by Albright's Kelsey McTaggart to keep it a 1-0 game heading into the half. 
  • Alvernia made it 2-0 in the 40th minute of the game after Palmer dished out an assist to Abbie Buck who fired the ball into the back of the net to make it a two goal game. 
  • The Golden Wolves tallied their second of the quarter just under four minutes later when Ava Michael netted an unassisted goal to extend the Alvernia lead to three heading into the final quarter of play. 
  • The Golden Wolves made it four just over three minutes into the fourth quarter thanks to a Caroline Martin goal to make it 4-0 Golden Wolves. 
  • Albright was able to salvage a goal in the final five minutes in the game after Olivia Lorah assisted Aliza Langlois to make it 4-1. 
  • Alvernia capped off a five goal performance in the 57th minute when Michael assisted Kelsy McClintock to secure the 5-1 victory for the Golden Wolves.
