Chester, Pa (October 19, 2024) - Cristian Topovich scored the game winner in the 80th minute of the contest to power Alvernia University (8-5-3, 2-1) to a 2-1 victory over Widener University (7-5-3, 2-1) Saturday afternoon in a MAC Commonwealth men's soccer clash at Widener. 

The Pride struck first in the 8th minute with a penalty kick but the Golden Wolves responded six minutes late to make it 1-1. Topovich then netted the game winner in the 80th minute after an assist from Nate Stoltzfus to secure the 2-1 victory for the Golden Wolves. 

How it Happened

• Widener's Christian Doyle got things going in the first eight minutes of the first half after the Pride were awarded an early penalty kick, Doyle converted his opportunity to make it 1-0 Widener. 
• The Golden Wolves responded right away, with a goal just five minutes later thanks to a Ryan Cogill unassisted goal made it a 1-1 game. 
• The Pride outshot the Golden Wolves 6-4 in the final 30 minutes of the game as it went into the half tied at one. 
• The Golden Wolves found the game winner in the 80th minute of the game after Nate Stoltzfus flicked a pass to Cristian Topivich, Topovich then ripped a rocket into the far corner and past the Widener keeper to make it a 2-1 game. 
• The Pride sent two shots at the Alvernia net in the final five minutes but were unable to find the back of the net as the Golden Wolves secured the 2-1 victory over the Pride. 

Inside the Box Score 

• Ryan Cogill and Cristian Topovich both netted the goals for Alvernia. 
• Nate Stoltzfus recorded the assist on the game winner and Connor Kraycik also recorded a team high six shots with three going on target. 
• Evan Solley earned the win in net for the Golden Wolves and tallied one save.
