Falcons Take Down Golden Wolves, 3-0

Reading, Pa (October 23, 2024) - Messiah University (9-5-1, 4-0) tallied two late insurance goals in the final five minutes of the contest en route to a 3-0 victory over Alvernia University (8-6-3, 2-2) in a MAC Commonwealth men's soccer clash Wednesday night at Alvernia.

The Falcons held a slight, 1-0 lead heading into the half but the Golden Wolves did not go away in the second half and had multiple chances to tie the game and even had a goal called back for offsides but it was not enough as the Falcons added two late insurance goals to secure the 3-0 victory over the Golden Wolves.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia's Connor Kraycik ripped a shot at the Messiah net in the 15th minute but Messiah's Davis Pagett made the save to deny Kraycik.
  • Messiah ripped three shots at the Alvernia net before Isaac Schmitke whipped in a ball from the right wing to Patrick Lee, Lee then put the ball into the back of the net to give Messiah a 1-0 advantage.
  • The Golden Wolves had two chances to level the score in the final two minutes of the half after Joseph Washington had a shot saved and Cristian Topoivich also had a shot saved as the Falcons headed into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves came out of the half hot and started to control the game against the Falcons. Alvernia tallied ten shots to Messiah's three in the first 35 minutes of the half including an outstanding bicycle kick attempt from Nate Stoltzfus that was saved by Messiah's Adam Carter and Connor Kraycik had a goal called back for offsides. The Golden Wolves put five of their ten shots on frame and had another hit the woodwork but the Falcons kept them out of the goal to preserve the 1-0 advantage heading into the final ten minutes of the contest.
  • The Falcons then tacked on two more in the 86th and 88th minutes thanks to a Patrick Lee goal in the 86th and a Josh Bratager goal in the 88th to secure the 3-0 victory for the Falcons.
