Five Golden Wolves Earn All-MAC Commonwealth Honors

Reading, Pa (November 12, 2024)  - Alvernia University Field Hockey had a total of five players earn All-MAC Commonwealth honors - with three first team All-MAC Commonwealth selections and two honorable mentions selections - for their performances during the 2024 season, as announced by the Middle Atlantic Conference on Tuesday morning. 

Ava Michael, Kathryn Palmer and Abbie Buck all earned first team honors, and Caroline Martin and Lexi Boettcher both earned honorable mention selections for Alvernia. 

Ava Michael, a sophomore, received her first All-MAC Commonwealth honor with a first team selection at forward. Michael led the Golden Wolves in goals and points in the fall with 14 goals. She also added four assists for a total of 32 points. Michael's 14 goals ranked her second in the Commonwealth and her 32 points was also the second most in the conference. Michael also recorded a team high 38 shots on goal for the Golden Wolves and her 38 shots ranked fourth most in the Commonwealth. Michael recorded three game winning goals in 2024 which came against Immaculata, Hood and Kean, where she netted all three goals in a 3-0 victory for Alvernia. Her three game winning goals ranked her in a tie for the third most in the Commonwealth. 

Kathryn Palmer, a junior, earned first team All-MAC Commonwealth honors as a midfielder and it is her third All-MAC Commonwealth honor in her career. Palmer started in all 19 games for the Golden Wolves and recorded 1,145 minutes played. Palmer netted three goals, two of which came as game winners and also added four assists for a total of ten points. Palmer tallied game winning goals against Arcadia and also added a goal and an assist in victories over Immaculata and Albright. Palmer also recorded assists against Susquehanna and Eastern. Palmer's two game winning goals ranked her in a tie for fourth most in the Commonwealth and her four assists ranked her in a tie for sixth most in the conference. Palmer also fired 19 total shots with 15 of them going on goal for a .789 shot on goal percentage. 

Abbie Buck, a senior, rounded out the first team honorees for the Golden Wolves with a first team selection as a defender. Buck started in all 19 games for the Golden Wolves in her senior campaign and finished second on the team in total minutes with 1,150. Buck scored four goals and added two assists for a total of ten points in 2024 her final two goals came on senior night in a 2-1 overtime victory over Widener. Buck netted the opener and then found the back of the net in the overtime period to clinch a MAC Commonwealth playoff spot for the Golden Wolves. Buck also recorded goals against Albright and York and tallied assists against Stockton and Immaculata. Buck recorded nine shots with six of them going on frame for a .667 shot on goal percentage and she also recorded four defensive saves, which ranked her in a tie for fourth most in the Commonwealth. Buck's first team selection is her first of her career and is her second All-MAC Commonwealth selection as she received second team honors in her sophomore year. 

Caroline Martin, a sophomore, earned honorable mention All-MAC Commonwealth honors as a forward. Martin ranked second on Alvernia in goals scored with ten and added four assists for a total of 24 points. Martin's ten goals ranked her in a tie for fourth in the Commonwealth and her 24 points was the fifth most in the conference. Martin netted two game winning goals, one against Eastern and the other came in a 5-3 victory over Muhlenberg where she recorded a hat trick and also added an assist for a career high, seven point performance. Martin also netted two goals against Stcokton and Eastern and also added a goal and an assist in a victory over Hood. Martin also recorded assists against Widener and assisted on the game winning goal in overtime against Stevenson. 

Lexi Boettcher, a senior, earned honorable mention All-MAC Commonwealth honors as a goalie. Boettcher has a 1.86 goals against average and a .795 save percentage. She has 128 saves on the season and a record of 12-7 with four shutouts. Boettcher's goals against average ranked her fifth in the conference, and her save percentage was ranked third. She was second in the conference with four shutouts and was also second with an average of 6.74 saves per game. Boettcher had a season and career-high 16 saves against Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth semifinal. She had ten saves or more in six games this season. This is Boettcher's first All-MAC Commonwealth honor.

Emma Gladstein of Stevenson was named the MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Year, and Belle Fields of York was named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year. CJ Summa of Eastern was named the MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year. Both Brooke Good of Messiah and Morgan Bitting of Stevenson were named Co-Coaches of the Year.
