Big First Period Lifts Golden Wolves Over Monarchs, 5-2

BOX SCORE Reading, Pa (November 16, 2024) - Alvernia University (3-3, 2-2) netted four first period goals en route to a 5-2 victory over King's College (1-4, 1-3) Saturday night in MAC men's ice hockey action at BodyZone. 

Alvernia netted four in the first and added the final insurance goal in the third period after holding off a late push by the Monarchs to secure the 5-2 victory. 

How it Happened
  • Lucas Ochitwa got things started for the Golden Wolves in the first seven minutes of the game when he put the puck in the back of the net after assists from Matthew Imbriano and Joey Arnold to make it 1-0 Golden Wolves. 
  • Frazer Dodd found the back of the net six minutes later for the Golden Wolves to make it a 2-0 game with under eight to play in the first period. Will White recorded the assist to Dodd. 
  • The Golden Wolves then netted a powerplay goal in the final minute of the first period after Edvin Robertsson and White assisted Nolan Barret who ripped the puck into the back of the net from just inside the blue line to make it a three goal advantage for the Golden Wolves. 
  • White added one more to the tally in the first period with six seconds to go in the period after the puck fell to White at the top of the Alvernia offensive zone, White then ripped a wicked slapshot that found the back of the net to send the Golden Wolves into the room with a 4-0 lead after the first 20 minutes. 
  • A scoreless second period was highlighted by the Golden Wolves and the Monarch's both sending seven shots on goal but Alvernia's Jacob Stern and King's Matt Bidini saved all seven to send the game into the final intermission with the Golden Wolves leading 4-0. 
  • King's pulled one back in the first seven minutes of the third period after Brendan Krawczky netted an unassisted goal to make it 4-1 Alvernia. 
  • The Monarchs then pulled within two just two minutes later when Thomas Soucy scored a powerplay goal after assists from Shota Kaneko and Kent Lee to make it 4-2 with under 12 to play. 
  • The Golden Wolves then tacked on an insurance goal to seal the 5-2 victory after Matthew Davies assisted Imbriano to make it 5-2.

  • With the win, the Golden Wolves leveled the season series at 1-1.
