Alvernia Falls to King’s, 5-1

Pittston, Pa (November 16, 2024) - Alvernia University (4-2, 2-2) fell to King's College (2-3, 2-2) 5-1, in a MAC women's ice hockey matchup Saturday afternoon at King's. 

The Golden Wolves and the Monarchs were tied at one after the first 20 minutes of play but King's tallied two goals in both the second and third periods to secure the 5-1 victory. 

How it Happened
  • Alvernia opened up the scoring in the final ten minutes of the first period after Addy Gularte put the puck in the back of the net thanks to assists from Sydney Bradley and Emma Hart to make it 1-0 Golden Wolves. 
  • The Monarchs responded almost immediately after Abby Barlocker leveled the score 18 seconds later after assists from Jordan Dittmar and Brighton Wallin to make it 1-1 after the first 20 minutes. 
  • King's grabbed the lead in the first five minutes of the second period when Maddie Vaughan scored a goal to make it 2-1 King's. Amanda Sokol and Sammi Stead tallied the assists for King's. 
  • The Monarchs pushed the lead to 3-1 six minutes later when Sokol assisted Lucy Beal to make it a two goal advantage heading into the final intermission. 
  • King's netted two more insurance goals in the final seven minutes of the game, both of which were scored by Sammi Stead to secure the 5-1 victory for the Monarchs. 

Of Note
  • With two wins this weekend, King's takes the 2-0 lead in the season series.
