Golden Wolves and Dutchmen Play to 1-1 Tie, Alvernia Takes Shootout, 1-0

Hershey, Pa (November 22, 2024) - Alvernia University (4-2-1, 2-2-1) and Lebanon Valley University (5-0-1, 4-0-1) played to a 1-1 tie with the Golden Wolves taking the shootout, 1-0 in MAC women's ice hockey action Friday night in Hershey.

The Dutchmen held a 1-0 lead after the first period but the Golden Wolves found the leveler in six minutes into the second period thanks to a Riley Hill goal. A scoreless third period and a scoreless overtime period sent the game into a shootout. After seven shootout rounds, Alvernia's Gillian Evans put the puck into the back of the net and LVC had its opportunity hit the post to give Alvernia the shootout victory.

How it Happened
  • Lebanon Valley got on the board first just six minutes in after Leela Nemani found the back of the net after an assist from Jess Dawe to give the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves fired eight shots on the LVC goal in the final 13 minutes of the first period but could not find the back of the net as LVC goalie Mia Frisoni saved all three as the Dutchmen took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
  • The Golden Wolves found the leveler with just over 14 minutes to go in the second period when Riley Hill put the puck into the back of the net. Alvernia's Julia Franklin moved the puck to Carolyn Burton at the blue line, Burton then found the stick of Hill across the blue line and Hill fired a missile into the top left corner of the goal to tie the game at one.
  • The Golden Wolves sent seven more shots at the LVC net with three going on goal and two being blocked but Alvernia could not find the back of the net as the game headed to the final intermission tied at one.
  • A scoreless third period was highlighted by Alvernia leading in the shot column 15-10 and sent eight of those shots on goal but the Golden Wolves could not find a winner as the game headed to overtime with the score still tied, 1-1.
  • Neither the Golden Wolves or the Dutchmen could put the puck in the net during the five minute overtime period as Alvernia and LVC headed to a shootout.
  • Riley Hill started the shootout for the Golden Wolves and sent her attempt wide, the Dutchmen then put their attempt on target but Alvernia's Juju Rodgers made the save.
  • Emma Hart, Addy Gularte and Moa Lagh all had their shootout attempts saved and all three of LVC's attempts were saved by Rodgers.
  • Carolyn Burton and Sydney Bradley all had their shootout attempts saved and Julia Franklin sent her attempt wide but Rodgers continued to keep the Dutchmen out of the back of the net to bring up Gillian Evans for the eighth round of the shootout.
  • Evans skated up and deked the LVC goalie and flipped a backhand shot inside the left post to put the Golden Wolves up 1-0 in the shootout.
  • LVC's Tiffany Anderson ripped her shootout attempt toward the right post but the puck clanked against the far post to give the Golden Wolves the 1-0 shootout victory.
