Alvernia Falls to Lebanon Valley, 2-1

Hershey, Pa. (Nov. 23, 2024) - Lebanon Valley College (6-0-1, 5-0-1) defeated Alvernia University (4-3-1, 2-3-1), 2-1, on Saturday night in MAC Women's Ice Hockey action at HersheyPark Arena.

The Dutchmen scored early in the second period and held the 1-0 lead until they doubled up on their lead late in the third period. Alvernia scored in the final minute to prevent the shutout, but the Dutchmen took the game, 2-1.

How it Happened
  • The Dutchmen outshot Alvernia 13-5 on goal in the first period, but Alvernia's Stephanie Skorupa made all 13 saves to keep the game at 0-0.
  • Lebanon Valley kept firing to open the second period with two shots in the first minute. The Dutchmen connected on their third shot of the period to take the 1-0 lead just under three minutes into the second frame.
  • Alvernia put in eight shots on goal in the second period, but could not connect. Skorupa made ten more saves to keep Alvernia within one heading into the final 20 minutes of action.
  • The Golden Wolves had two power play opportunities in the first ten minutes of the third period, but combined for just two shots across the two power plays.
  • Alvernia then killed off a Lebanon Valley power play to keep the game within striking distance heading into the final five minutes of action. But, Alvernia was called for another penalty with just over four minutes to play, and this time Lebanon Valley connected just 25 seconds into the power play to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Alvernia went to the empty net to get an extra attacker on the ice with two minutes to play. Alvernia sent in a flurry of shots and found the back of the net on an Emma Hart goal to get Alvernia on the board with just under a minute to play. The Golden Wolves had one more shot attempt before time expired, but the attempt was blocked as Lebanon Valley came away with the 2-1 win.
Inside the Box Score
  • Emma Hart was Alvernia's lone goal-scorer, and Julia Franklin got the assist on the goal. Franklin also led Alvernia in the faceoff circle, going 11-for-18.
  • Stephanie Skorupa finished with 26 saves in the loss.
