Golden Wolves Take Down Pioneers in OT, 4-3

BOX SCORE Newark, N.J. (November 16, 2024) - Connor Kraycik's overtime winner led Alvernia University (11-8-3) to a 4-3 victory over William Paterson University (9-8-3) Saturday afternoon in an ECAC men's soccer quarterfinal at Rutgers-Newark. 

The Golden Wolves led 2-1 at the half but two goals within a minute in the second half gave the Pioneers the 3-2 advantage. The Golden Wolves then netted a goal in the final ten minutes of regulation to send it to overtime tied at three. Connor Kraycik netted the game winning goal in the first three minutes of overtime to secure the 4-3 victory for the Golden Wolves. 

Alvernia senior Ryan Cogill netted the game tying goal in the 85th minute and pushed him over the 100 career points mark. Cogill became the first Alvernia Men's Soccer player in program history to reach 100 career points. 

How it Happend 
  • Kraycik opened the scoring in the 15th minute of the game when he scored an unassisted goal to give Alvernia an early 1-0 advantage. 
  • William Paterson then tied the game up in the final ten minutes of the half when Matthew Escobar found the back of the net to make it 1-1 with ten to go in the half. 
  • Alvernia responded to take the lead in the final three minutes of the first half after Jackson Costello assisted Cristian Topovich to make it 2-1 Golden Wolves heading into the half. 
  • The Pioneers swung the momentum in their favor in the first ten minutes of the second half. In the 54th minute, Jonathan Antonio assisted Dylan Nahas to make it a 2-2 game. 
  • Under a minute later the Pioneers grabbed the lead after Diego Navas netted an unassisted goal to give William Paterson a 3-2 advantage heading into the final 35 minutes of the contest. 
  • The Golden Wolves found a leveler in the 85th minute of the game after Alvernia was awarded a penalty. Ryan Cogill stepped up to the spot and slotted his attempt into the back of the net to send the game to overtime tied at three. Cogill's goal put him over the 100 career point mark. 
  • Kraycik netted his second goal of the evening, the game winner in the third minute of the overtime period when he scored another unassisted goal to secure the 4-3 victory for the Golden Wolves.

  • Cogill currently sits at 101 career points and is the only player in program history to record 100 points in a career.
