Golden Wolves Fall to Scarlet Raptors, 69-64

Camden, N.J. (November 19, 2024) - Alvernia University (3-1) dropped a non-conference men's basketball matchup to Rutgers-Camden University (4-0) 69-64, Tuesday night at Rutgers-Camden. 

The Golden Wolves and Scarlet Raptors were locked at 28 heading into the halftime break but the Scarlet Raptors outscored the Golden Wolves 41-36 in the second half to secure the five point, 69-64 victory. 

How it Happened
  • Rutgers-Camden jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first three minutes of the half but the Golden Wolves responded with a 9-0 scoring run to swing the lead to them, 9-5. Janye Stanley added five points and Robert Cottrell and Elijah Hamilton both added two. 
  • Camden then bounced back with a scoring run of its own, an 11-6 scoring run that gave the Scarlet Raptors the lead, 16-15 with under ten to go in the half. 
  • The Golden Wolves then grabbed the lead back with under three to go after a 10-4 run over the next six minutes. Jameel Burton tallied four for the Golden Wolves during the run and Jacob Stoudt added two as well as Alvernia took a five point, 25-20 lead. 
  • Rutgers-Camden closed out the first half on a 8-3 stretch to level the ballgame at 28 heading into the halftime break. Cottrell recorded a team high eight in the first half, Stanley followed with seven points and Jakob Kelly and Burton both added four. 
  • Alvernia came out of the half and grabbed the lead back after scoring nine of the first 14 points of the half to go up four,37-33, with 14 minutes to go. Cottrell continued to lead the way with four more points and Elijah Hamilton added three. 
  • The Scarlet Raptors then ripped off a 21-9 scoring stretch over the next six minutes of action to swing the lead back in their favor, 54-46 with under seven minutes to go in the game. 
  • The Golden Wolves did not go away as they scored nine of the next 15 points of the game to grab the lead back from the Scarlet Raptors, 62-60 with under three to play. 
  • Rutgers-Camden knocked down two free throws to tie the game at 62 and then ended the game on a 7-2 scoring run that secured the 69-64 victory over the Golden Wolves. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Robert Cottrell led the way offensively for the Golden Wolves with 20 points, six steals and five assists and also went 6-8 from the charity stripe. 
  • Janye Stanley followed Cottrell with 12 points for Alvernia and both Elijah Hamilton and Jakob Kelly added 11 points for the Golden Wolves. 
  • Jamel Burton added six points, a team high six rebounds and went 3-4 from the floor. 
  • The Golden Wolves shot 44% from the floor and struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 20% from three point range.
