Golden Wolves Down Aggies, 62-55

Lancaster, Pa. (Nov. 22, 2024) - Alvernia University (3-2) opened up the Franklin and Marshall Terry Green Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night with a 62-55 win over Delaware Valley University (1-3) on the campus of Franklin and Marshall.

The Golden Wolves took the lead early and, while allowing the game to be tied four times, never gave up the lead en route to their third straight win.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia wasted no time getting on the board with Kylie Bradford hitting a jumper just eight seconds into the game. The Golden Wolves made it a 4-0 game on their next possession on a layup by Jennah DeGout off the feed of Jordyn Ingelido.
  • Delaware Valley tied it up at 7-7 with 4:33 to play in the first quarter after the Aggies held Alvernia to just one field goal and one made free throw over four minutes of action. But, the Golden Wolves retook the lead, 9-7, on a putback layup by DeGout with 4:24 to play in the quarter. The back and forth continued for the remainder of the quarter as Alvernia took the narrow 15-13 lead into the second frame.
  • The Golden Wolves pushed their lead to 18-14 through the first 1:20 of the second quarter off a DeGout layup and an Olivia Burke layup. But, Alvernia went scoreless for over four minutes. However, the Aggies also struggled to make a shot as well as Alvernia was able to hold onto its lead.
  • A DeGout jumper with 5:38 to play put an end Alvernia's scoreless drought and gave Alvernia the 20-16 lead.
  • A Burke 3-pointer pushed Alvernia's lead to five, 23-18, with 4:49 to play in the half. But, again both teams went cold in the final four and a half minutes and combined for just three points as Alvernia took the 24-20 lead into the half. DeGout led Alvernia in the opening 20 minutes with 11 points and eight rebounds.
  • The Golden Wolves came out of the break and hit back-to-back layups from Burke and Ingelido to push their lead to eight, 28-20. Alvernia maintained a two-possession game for the next five minutes. A layup from Burke and a 3-pointer from Ryleigh Poole helped Alvernia maintain the gap.
  • The Aggies hung around and used an 8-3 run over a 90 second span to even the game at 38-38 with 3:11 to play in the quarter. But, Alvernia closed out the quarter out-scoring the Aggies 5-0 to take a 43-38 lead into the final ten minutes.
  • Alvernia opened the fourth quarter with another four points from Bradford and DeGout to extend its lead to nine, 47-38, through the first two minutes of the quarter.
  • The Golden Wolves then extended their lead to double-digits for the first time in the game as a 3-pointer and layup from Burke made it a 52-42 game with 6:12 to play.
  • The Aggies cut Alvernia's lead back down to five, 53-48, over the next 90 seconds. But, a Bradford layup pushed Alvernia's lead back to seven, 55-48, with just over four and a half minutes to play.
  • While Alvernia's offense was held to just one field goal the rest of the way, the Alvernia defense kept the Aggies at bay in the final four minutes as the Golden Wolves secured the 62-55 win.
