Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Nick Anderson (Assistant Sports Information Director)

Alvernia Blanks Anna Maria, 2-0

Reading, Pa (November 2, 2024) - Alvernia University (2-0) shutout Anna Maria College (0-2) 2-0, in a non-conference women's ice hockey matchup Saturday afternoon at BodyZone. 

Alvernia's Emma Hart continued to find the back of the net today, netting two goals today to lead the Golden Wolves to a 2-0 victory over the Amcats and secure the weekend sweep. 

How it Happened 
  • Anna Maria controlled the offensive zone throughout most of the first period and sent 17 shots at the Alvernia net with 11 going on goal but Alvernia first year Stephanie Skorupa saved all 11 to keep the Amcats out of the net. 
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed the lead in the final five minutes of the first period after Emma Hart netted an unassisted goal to give Alvernia a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. 
  • Alvernia flipped the script in the second period and fired 17 shots at the Anna Maria net with 11 going on goal but the Amcats goalie saved all 11 as the Golden Wolves took a 1-0 lead into the final intermission. 
  • The Golden Wolves sent another 11 shots on goal in the third before Hart netted the game sealing goal, an empty netter, in the final two minutes of the game to secure the 2-0 victory for the Golden Wolves. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • Emma Hart led the way for the Golden Wolves with both the goals. Hart capped off a tremendous opening weekend to her career with five of Alvernia's seven goals. 
  • Julia Franklin tallied five shots on goal and added a team high 11 faceoff wins. 
  • Addy Gularte recorded two shots on goal and went 10-13 on faceoffs. 
  • Stephanie Skorupa earned the win and recorded 23 saves in net for the Golden Wolves while also keeping a shutout in her college debut. 

Of Note
  • The Golden Wolves shutout the Amcats on the weekend 7-0 and is the second year in a row that they have kept back to back shutouts in the opening weekend of the season.
