Golden Wolves Net Eight, Take Down Mustangs, 8-1

Reading, Pa (November 8, 2024) - Alvernia University (3-0, 1-0) netted seven goals in the third period en route to an 8-1 victory over Stevenson University (0-3, 0-1) Friday night in a MAC women's ice hockey clash at BodyZone.

The Golden Wolves and the Mustangs were locked at one after heading into the third period before the Golden Wolves erupted for seven goals in the third period, including a third period hat trick from Khenzie Connick to secure the 8-1 victory over Stevenson.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia came out firing in the first period, but could not find the back of the net. The Golden Wolves outshot the Mustangs 25-6 overall and 16-2 on goal, but Stevenson's Olivia DeGuire held strong in net and kept Alvernia off the board. Alvernia also had three power play opportunities in the opening period, but the Mustangs killed off all three to send the game into the second period tied at 0-0.
  • The Golden Wolves kept their foot on the gas coming out of the break and fired in 12 shots in the first seven minutes of the period, but Stevenson kept Alvernia off the board.
  • The Mustangs picked up some steam in the second half of the second period, and maintained steady possession in the final ten minutes of the period. It was the Mustangs who broke through first and scored with seven and a half minutes to play in the period.
  • Stevenson was poised to take the 1-0 lead into the second intermission, but Marissa Caswell evened it up with 38 seconds to play in the period. Caswell was positioned just off the crease and deflected it into the net to level the score at one heading into the final intermission.
  • The Golden Wolves came out in the third period flying and grabbed the lead in the first five minutes of the third period after the Mustangs were assessed a five minute penalty, the Golden Wolves went on the power play. Gillian Evans netted the game winner thanks to assists from Julia Franklin and Addy Gularte to make it 2-1 Alvernia.
  • Alvernia then made it 3-1 just over a minute later after Carolyn Burton fired a shot at the Stevenson goal that was saved, Franklin then buried the rebound off the goalie's pad to give the Golden Wolves a two goal advantage.
  • The Golden Wolves netted their third goal in two minutes when Burton fired in a pass from the blue line to Shae Hudec who deflected it into the back of the goal to make it 4-1 Golden Wolves.
  • Khenzie Connick then made it 5-1 with five minutes to go in the game after netting an unassisted goal to push the Alvernia lead to four.
  • Sydney Bradley found the back of the net a minute later to make it 6-1 Golden Wolves with four minutes to go in the third.
  • Connick then netted two goals in the final two minutes of the contest to secure the hat trick and seal the 8-1 victory for the Golden Wolves.
