Golden Wolves Complete Comeback, Take Down McDaniel, 57-48

Reading, Pa (December 18, 2024) - Alvernia University (5-4) outscored McDaniel College (8-3) 41-20 in the second half en route to the 57-48 victory over the Green Terror in a non-conference women's basketball matchup Wednesday afternoon on Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves led 3-2 early on a layup followed by an and-one free throw by Olivia Burke in the first minute of action. But, the Green Terror went on a 16-1 run over the next six and a half minutes. Alvernia got rolling again with an Aaliyah Ferrer 3-pointer with 1:48 to play in the quarter. But, McDaniel took an 18-7 lead into the second quarter.
  • McDaniel extended its lead to 20-7 in the opening minutes, but a quick 6-0 from Alvernia brought the Golden Wolves back within nine, 20-11. Kylie Bradford and Jennah DeGout combined for the six points during Alvernia's quick burst.
  • Another scoreless drought plagued the Golden Wolves in the latter half of the second quarter as McDaniel scored eight straight to take a 15 point lead, 28-13, with 1:55 to play in the half. A pull-up jumper from Paige O'Brien got Alvernia back on the board with 1:46 to play in the half, but it marked the final points of the half for either side as the Green Terror took the 28-16 lead into the half.
  • McDaniel came out of the second half and in the first five minutes recorded an 8-2 scoring run that would push the lead to 18, 36-18.
  • Alvernia responded with a 10-0 scoring run over the next two minutes after two big time threes from Ferrer and another from O'Brien to cut the McDaniel lead to eight, 36-28 with just over a minute to go in the quarter.
  • Ryleigh Poole then knocked down another three with under a minute to play as the Green Terror held a eight point, 39-31 lead over the Golden Wolves heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Alvernia came out of the quarter break on fire and ripped off a 9-2 run in the first three minutes of the final quarter and pulled within one, 41-40. Nikki Etchison knocked down a huge three pointer and also a pull up jumper during the run and both Poole and DeGout recorded layups for the Golden Wolves.
  • McDaniel and Alvernia would trade buckets back and forth before Jennah DeGout knocked down two free throws to level the game at 45 with 3:42 to go in the contest.
  • Just over a minute later, Ferrer knocked down another from beyond the arc to give Alvernia its first lead since early in the first quarter, 48-45.
